Our Leonbergers

Leonberg is the hometown of our company's President, Heide Geiger-Winings.  It is also the origin of one of the most beautiful dog breeds you will ever see.  Heide grew up with Leonbergers and always wanted one, or more. of her own.  Now she does.  Here is a picture of Heide when whe was a little girl in Leonberg with her "babysitter" looking after her and her friend.  This was in the Leonberger Zeitung, circa 1961.  Note the pigtails!!!  

Leonberg is located near Stuttgart, in South West Germany.  It is also not far from another famous town with a dog named after it, Rottweil.  The breed was alledgedly developed by Herr Essig in the 1800's.  It is believed that we was trying to develop a dog that resemebled the village crest, a fire breathing lion.
